Silver Filled vs Silver Plated:
Silver Filled indicates that the finding is composed of a tube of sterling silver, which is filled with & bonded to a base metal (usually a copper or brass alloy). Silver filled findings will retain their silver outer layer longer than silver plated findings. Silver Filled findings will tarnish like silver, and can be cleaned using silver-cleaning methods.
Silver Plated indicates that the finding is composed of a base metal alloy, coated with a microscopic layer of silver. These findings don't tarnish as quickly, but are more prone to the silver coating flaking off if nicked, or over time with wear.
