Gold-filled chains are priced by the inch, and will be cut in continuous lengths (ie buy 18 inches & you will receive a single 2cut of chain, 18" long).
What does gold-filled mean?
Gold-filled metal is a layered material constructed in two or three layers, bonded together. The core metal is jewelers' brass, and all the gold content is on the outer surface, in an even layer. It is a much thicker coating than on products described as "gold-plated."
Gold filled jewelry, chain, and findings are legally required to be 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. This 5% is described by the karatage of the gold alloy on the surface. Most material is 12kt or 14kt gold-filled.
Gold-filled pieces are generally more durable than gold-plated due to the thicker layer of gold alloy.
