Intro to Beading - Waistbeads

We are excited to have local artist Sonji Jones, of Good Vibrations Beading, as a new instructor to teach beading basics with 6/0 & 8/0 seed beads and silk cording to make your own waistbeads. Waistbeads have a rich history and go back as far as Ancient Egypt. Once recognized as symbols of wealth and aristocracy, their modern expressions represent fertility and femininity, weight management, and self-expression. From language color to how they are worn, the spiritual and cultural meanings behind waistbeads are vast. Waistbeads are meant for every body and every shape.

This class is perfect for beginners looking to wade into the magical world of beading. This basic stringing class is a great stepping stone to designing your own bracelets and necklaces but be warned: shopping and collecting beads can become a quick obsession and who are we to stop you? 

This class is open to ages 14+.

Supplies Provided:

• You will be provided with stringing material and any tools necessary. 

Supplies Needed :

• You will need one tube of 6/0 beads and one tube of 8/0 beads. Color choice is up to you but we suggest complimentary yet contrasting colors! Shop from our bead collection or bring your own! Please arrive to Craft Habit at least 15 minutes before class starts if you are shopping for supplies. We'll be glad to help you shop for what you need.

Class Policies & COVID procedures:

Properly worn masks are encouraged but not required while inside Craft Habit. We do have masks available should you wish to wear one while spending time with us!

This class requires a minimum of 4 students enrolled, with a maximum of 10. Craft Habit will notify students at least 24 hours in advance if a class is cancelled due to low enrollment. Students will be fully refunded for any classes cancelled due to low enrollment.

Food and most beverages are not allowed during classes, due to safety concerns. You are welcome to bring water in a container that will not spill if knocked over. 

Class registrations are not refundable. If you cannot attend, you may find another person to take your place in a class. Please let us know their name in advance of the class starting.

Classes cancelled by Craft Habit WILL be refunded. We will do our best to reschedule classes, and we will refund class registration fees for any classes that we have to cancel for any reason.

To respect our teachers’ time, please arrive 5 minutes before scheduled class time unless advised otherwise. Late arrivals may miss important information and may not be able to catch up to the class. We cannot issue refunds for late arrivals. Please shop for your class materials in advance!
