Intro to Free Motion Quilting

Join quilter Melissa Woodward to learn how to use a typical home sewing machine to quilt your fabric projects.
No fancy equipment is needed! Learn to create and transfer a stitching design to fabric, and tips for successful sewing.
You will leave class with a 12" x 12" block quilted with batting and backing fabric.

This class is a great follow-up to Basic Quilt Blocks, but you are welcome to attend even if you haven't taken the Basic Quilt Blocks class.
Students should be comfortable with using a sewing machine to participate in this class.

This class covers quilting stitching only. Try Melissa's Basic Quilt Blocks class to learn piecing, the skill that gives you that patchworked fabric look.  Next steps such as how to bind your quilt will be covered in future classes.

Supplies Needed:

  • Students who have taken Basic Quilt Blocks can bring back the project started in that class, and will need to bring or purchase 1 Fat Quarter of fabric for the quilt backing
  • New students will need to bring or purchase 2 fat quarters of fabric to use for the front and back of the quilt
  • Thread, sewing machines, quilt batting, and essential tools will be provided for use in class.
  • Students may bring their own sewing machines to use during class, if you would prefer to use your own equipment. Machines must be in good working condition. Please test your sewing machine before coming to class.
